As a Texas educator in the public school system, I have firsthand experience and insight into the strengths and challenges of the public education system. With the upcoming election on March 5th, it's essential to recognize the critical importance of protecting our public education system, regardless of political affiliation. Candidates in the March 5th Texas election have been publicly persistent in their push for voucher systems, which threatens the very foundation of our public schools, putting our children's and students' future and our community's strength at risk. It's more crucial than ever for Texans to exercise their right to vote and safeguard our public education system against these detrimental policies. By electing leaders who prioritize public education and understand its value, we can ensure that all children have access to a quality education. We must support candidates fighting against any attempts to undermine our public schools and advocate for policies that will strengthen and improve our education system. Together, we can protect the future of our state by standing up for our public schools and the students who rely on them. Here are a few reasons I oppose and will vote against public voucher systems in Texas public education.
Funding Diversion: Voucher programs that divert public funds away from already underfunded public schools are a concern. As a public educator, I understand the critical importance of adequate funding for resources, staff, and infrastructure to support student learning.
